Architecture that can be used with dignity, autonomy, comfort, and belonging.

Many spaces can be technically accessible and still make people hesitate, withdraw, feel tired, feel exposed, or feel unable to participate. I study how everyday environments shape social participation, spatial decision-making, comfort, access, and belonging.

Trained as an architect in Egypt, a BSc at Ain Shams University and an MSc at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, I moved to Calgary in 2023 for doctoral work in Computational Media Design, where I am a President's Doctoral Scholar. My work connects architectural design, human-environment research, aging studies, participatory methods, and computational design evaluation, developing methods that help architects evaluate whether people can not only enter a space, but use it with dignity, autonomy, comfort, and social connection.

My long-term goal is to establish an Inclusive Spatial Behavior Lab that studies social participation and spatial decision-making across populations, environments, and methods, beginning with older adults, and extending to people with mobility aids, sensory differences, caregivers, children, pregnant women, and socially isolated communities.
